  1. Sri Lankan Defence and Foreign policy establishment is getting increasingly sophisticated in handling country’s national and international affairs.

Though Bildt is currently Swedish, he is of Norwegian descent, and the idea that he should tag along with Milliband and Kouchner would have come from our friend Sol’heim’ due to his own unofficial ‘persona non grata’ status with Sri Lanka. Bildt is the archetypical member of the coterie of international ’long noses’ who seem to think that they rule the globe, and it’s their ‘burden’ to manage issues in developing countries through uninvited intervention. This group who calls themselves the ‘International Community’ have completely taken over the national political systems and governments of countries where they live in, and the UN system. With the availability of unlimited financial resources through sources ranging from that thief George Soros and the Ford Foundation to various ‘charities’, they also create various fronts such as Human Rights Watch and the International Crisis Group to provide on-the-ground information and theoretical and academic backing to their policy agenda aimed controlling the world. As self-appointed guardians of Human Rights, dignity and every other noble human value, they impose standards to the entire world, exempting the government of their bellowed ‘Promised Land’.
What is of most interest to Sri Lanka would be the role Bildt played in a number of international conspiracies such as the Iraqi invasion and the breaking-up of the Balkans: Bildt was a member of the ‘International Advisory Council’, of the Committee for the Liberation of Iraq, the cabal that hatched the Iraqi plot for the Bush administration. Then he was a ‘prime mover’ in the US and EU led and NATO implemented conspiracy to pulverise former Yugoslavia and the Balkans that culminated with the disgraceful creation of a Kosovo ‘state’. Bildt’s cover in that particular project was ‘mediator’ in the (non existing) Balkan conflict and as the EU ‘Special Envoy’. He was also co-chairman of the so-called Dayton ‘Peace’ Conference that other neocon Stephen Holbrooke hatched in November 1995 to force Slobodan Milosevic to accept his ‘solution’. Then Bildt became ‘High Representative’ for Bosnia and Herzegovina immediately after the Bosnian War. As it happens, next he became Kofi Annan’s Special Envoy for the Balkans! All these international problem solving tasks despite the fact that he was a drop-out from the University of Stockholm! Croatia declared him ‘persona non grata’ in 1995 in return for his unfounded allegation that the President of Croatia, Franjo Tudman was guilty of war crimes, The Croatian government announced that Bildt had ‘lost the credibility necessary for the role of a peace mediator’. He has also labelled Russia, Belarus, Cuba, Syria, and Venezuela as “miserable” countries. In his previous day job as prime minister of Sweden he carried out the international neoliberal capitalist agenda by reducing government spending, creating voucher schools, and privatisation of publicly owned companies and health care, against the wishes of the progressive sections of the government. As a businessman with interest in Russian gas giant Gazprom, he benefited from some of these ‘reforms’. He has found Human Rights issues so very important that he has taken charge of the issues under his ministry of Foreign Affairs, prompting Carl Söderbergh, Secretary General for the Swedish section of Amnesty International to criticise the grab. As is mandatory for these meddlers, he also served as the first non-US member ever of the Board of Trustees of the RAND Corporation (Santa Monica) and on the Advisory Boards of the Centre for European Reform (London), European Policy Center (Brussels), the International Institute for Strategic Studies (London) and the real World Government, the Council on Foreign Affairs in New York. He and his friends in the EU have remarked that there will be ‘consequences’. But Sri Lanka should not be bullied by such threats. The decision makers ought to be congratulated!

  2. British Foreign Secretary David Miliband and his French counterpart Bernard Kouchner are in Sri Lanka to step up pressure on the government to let go of the Tigers on their last legs. They epitomise the monumental partiality of their governments to monstrous dictators. How those two countries have pampered homicidal maniacs is only too well known. Suffice it to say France had no qualms about mollycoddling Bokassa, the bloodthirsty lunatic who crowned himself as an emperor and fed his pet crocs with schoolchildren and his guests with fattened prison inmates! French President D’Estaing provided a loan of one million pounds for that monster to buy limousines and motorcycles for his ‘coronation’ and shamelessly received blood diamonds as gifts. Bokassa had the habit of showering diamonds on his special guests and organising safaris for them. Finally, France had to get rid of him, when he became too embarrassing to protect. Britain shielded Pinochet responsible for crimes against humanity and harboured him in spite of a court order to deport him to stand trial for massacres. His Caravan of Death churned out death and devastation across Chile following the 1973 coup but Britain backed him to the hilt for his services during the Falklands war!

  3. David Miliband must respect the sovereignty of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is no longer the British colony it used to be. There is a war to fight and it is best to leave matters in the able hands of Sri Lankans. Diplomatic coercion towards a fellow UN member is not what Britain should be indulging. Instead a more participatory approach towards the aspirations of Sri Lankans would go a very long way. May be he is unaware that Sri Lanka is Asia’s oldest democracy. Miliband or any other interferer has no right to contravene peoples’ sovereignty and demand an end to war.

Concern for civilians is understandable. However, stopping the war for the sake of avoiding or minimising civilian casualties is counter-productive. If the war is stopped, civilians trapped in the No Fire Zone (NFZ) will remain there forever. Apart from lack of healthcare, sanitary and education facilities, the NFZ is not their regular place of abode. That is why civilians must be allowed safe passage out of the NFZ which has been taken over by the LTTE turning it to a battle zone. Time and time again Miliband has shown his incapacity to understand this simple truth justifying the somewhat affable claim that he is a congenital idiot. He may not even realise that his ‘do good’ intentions aimed at providing some short term relief for civilians will end up creating more sufferings in the long run. Long term peace requires the LTTE to be put out of business. The sooner it happens, the better. Delaying this is a sure way to sustain the LTTE thereby sustaining the sufferings of people.

What Miliband should be concentrating more is his own troops in Iraq and Afghanistan some of whom are deliberately engaged in calculated human rights violations and abuses at will. Britain uses disproportionate and excessive force to handle rebels in Iraq and Afghanistan. Unlike LTTE terrorists, none of the rebels in Iraq and Afghanistan got a navy, an air wing or a dedicated artillery unit. Fighting had raged in densely populated areas and British troops were never pressurised to halt operations for the sake of civilians. Is it because all Iraqi and Afghan civilian casualties of British operations were Muslims? If so, the much hyped ‘Global War on Terror’ is actually a war on Muslims, nothing else.

If Miliband agrees that Al Qaeda and Taleban need to be put out of business, there are many more reasons to do the same for the LTTE. LTTE’s brutality has already reached London. There were many acts of street fighting, killings, vandalism, attacking foreign diplomatic missions and other mischief in London caused by LTTE sympathisers. Sri Lanka amidst a war has been able to protect the British High Commission than Britain managed to protect the Sri Lankan High Commission office in London!

Prime Ministerial aspirations may be driving Miliband to be seen as a bull in a china shop. However, his timid conduct when powerful nations acted contrary to British expectations is only too well known. If he is of the view that might is right when he interferes with weaker yet proud nations, he should appreciate that the mightiest is not their ally in their wars.

Unlike visiting delegates, we, Sri Lankans have to live in this country and we know what’s best. Sinhalas, Tamils and Muslims must coexist right throughout Sri Lanka as they do in most parts of the country, especially Colombo. By deliberately or negligently hurting Tamils would not help us coexist. That is the best guarantee that we will take due care of matters needing our attention. On the other hand Miliband and his band must better get used to the dangerous world they created by inventing dozens of armed rebel groups in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia, etc. thanks to their failed experiments. British troops will be leaving Iraq as losers, not as winners and there is nothing more they can do when Al Qaeda launches attacks in their home country again. The same applies to Afghanistan. Undue interference caused the emergence of an unprecedented number of small heavily armed rebel groups. Saving the LTTE now is enough to dictate the future of the island; it would be no different to Iraq and Afghanistan.

  4. Kouchner and Miliband should be in Afghanistan and Iraq where their soldiers are at the receiving end of bullets from Taliban and Al Qaida terrorists. Kouchner is not a very forward looking man. He cannot evaluate a situation to suggest progressive solutions. He interferes into countries without allowing them to find solutions for political problems on their own. He finds simple solutions without considering the after effects of such solutions. Breaking up States to weaken their political power is Kouchner’s speciality. He supported USA military intervention in Iraq without UN approval. He was the man who instigated Kosovo to break away from the Belgrade Orbit. Speaking in Kosovo he said, “‘Now the time has come to look forward,” Kouchner began, sitting under an Albanian banner.’ You have fought for a better Kosovo, a Kosovo where people can lead a peaceful and happy life.”

In an article- Solona and Kouchner push Kososvo “Independence” Jared Israel wrote , “The main thing that has happened since Kouchner took over Kosovo is that between 300,000 and 400,000 Serbs, “Gypsies”, non-Albanian Muslims, anti-fascist Albanians and Jews have been driven from their homes. Most are now refugees, mainly in Serbia. Some died crossing the Adriatic. Some stayed in Kosovo, barricaded in, fearful of every knock at the door. Some have been kidnapped or murdered”

One wonders with what intentions he sought to enter the No-fire Zone in Mullativu to meet the terrorists and their human shield of Tamil civilians. Miliband is also one of these dull English Ministers, who have no principles. He puts all his cards on Sri Lanka terrorists to ensure his next election. He believes more on the terrorists than the leaders of a Sovereign State. He had brought Kouchner along with him as Kouchner has a bigger mouth and thinks he can fool any one by his big talk. He must have learnt that the Sri Lankans are not made of the same stuff as those in Belgrade, where he was able to help Kosovo to break away from Serbia. One ought to have peanuts instead of grey mater in one’s brains to ask the Government of Sri Lanka to agree to a cease fire with an already defeated terrorists just a few of them hiding inside a hole picking ticks from their dirty skins.

Sri Lanka Government was the first country in the world that had succeeded to eliminating a group of terrorists who terrorised the country for thirty long years. It also has a very capable Armed Force with experienced Commanders who planned perfect strategies to weaken and defeat the terrorists- many though were an invincible force. The Government has acted with extreme intelligence in not listening to the International Community which lacked imagination and called for a political solution after a negotiated settlement. The Government of Sri Lanka knows that the political solution is not possible without first eliminating terrorism. Therefore, it is not necessary for the Government to listen to Miliband and Kouchner for a solution to end terrorism and save the Tamil Civilians. Sri Lanka knows better when the military operations should end and how to bring peace to the country.

Miliband and Kouchner do not intervene with any sense of humanitarian desire to save the Tamil Civilians, but they are intervening to meet the terrorists in the No Fire Zone to arrange a “cease fire” on the demand of the Tamil Diaspora in UK. UN is not any more what it had been. It is unable to unite countries, and assist its Member States to solve their problems. It shamelessly follow the terrorist websites using false information to discredit a Member State. Aid Agencies have caused Sri Lanka enough problems and the Government should never again depend on them. Their intentions are not to help developing countries but to keep the developing countries poor and dependent.

Sweden had collaborated with Norway in the Monitoring Mission before. One wonders whether Sweden was in the minds of those who suggested that the terrorists should surrender to a third party. The UN and the International Community had thought that Sri Lanka Government could be made to dance to their tune.

Neither Miliband nor Kouchner have understood that the Tamil Diaspora carrying out a propaganda in favour of the terrorists have no interest in the Tamil Civilians. The terrorists promised the Tamil diaspora a Tamil Homeland in Sri Lanka . And the Tamil Diaspora contributed large sums of money to the terrorists cause with the Homeland in mind. If they save the terrorist leaders they could still hope the terrorists to come back on a later date to continue terrorism to finally establish the Tamil Homeland.

This is why Sri Lanka does not want the International Community to intervene now to allow the terrorists to escape now, to reappear later. The International Community should instead stop the Tamil diaspora in their countries from carrying manifestations in favour of terrorism, and stop collecting funds for the terrorist cause.
